We will also enjoy lunch at the Pilanesberg restaurant in the middle of the vast park.
After 2 nights acclimatizing and relaxing at this location, it will be time to continue our overland journey.
Day/Nights 4&5 Mapungubwe National Park
We depart The Kingdom resort after a wholesome breakfast and head directly North to cross over the Tropic of Capricorn heading towards our next destination Mapungubwe National Park in South Africa, in the extreme North border area of South Africa. This will be our longest stretch of overland trekking throughout the 14-day safari, in order that we cover the distance from civilization and head into the wilder country [Distance 590 KM, and drive time 6 hrs 25 min]. We will ensure plenty of stops to drink fluids and stretch legs, allowing everyone to remain hydrated. Along the route we will stock up on supplies, at supermarkets to ensure we have all we need to sustain us for the next two days and nights where we will be deep in the African wilderness.
Arriving around 14h00 we settle into our bush cottages, turn on the air conditioners and explore the camp and immediate surrounds, don't be surprised to see a bull elephant walking up to your dwelling as you sit and relax on your stoep, or whilst swimming in the swimming pool made out of natural rock, don't be surprised if Elephant arrive to lift their trunks over the deep end of the pool to slurp up water to splash over themselves whilst watching you swimming. This is known to happen regularly here at Mapungubwe.
This National Park lies right up against both the Botswana and Zimbabwe border, It is where all 3 countries come together and the only boundary is the 2 rivers that also converge here, the Limpopo and Shashe rivers being the natural boundaries of the 3 countries. There are no border fences here, so all mammal species are free to roam over the vast area and congregate in large numbers moving freely over the land mass, and where you will encounter any species at any moment or after any bend in the road.
Massive Baobab trees, Views across the rivers, whilst standing on a hill in South Africa, you can see for 40 km into the escarpment on the left into Botswana and to the right into Zimbabwe. Tree top walkway to the river viewing hides often allow you to walk over an elephant herd as they wonder past underneath you on the wooden bridge.
All these aspects make Mapungubwe a gem in the wilderness, an unforgettable place where lifelong memories are made.
After 2 unforgettable nights here, we move relentlessly on our way deeper into Africa, cross the Limpopo River, gain access through the border post in the heat of the morning, and leave South Africa behind us as we continue to head Northwards.

Day 14 night 14 Limpopo River Lodge
Our last overnight stop before returning to South Africa to spend your last night on safari at the Kingdom resort, is spent here on the Banks of the Limpopo River in the Tuli block, Botswana. And in many respects could be the most fascinating and remote destinations giving new experiences not found at any of the previous stop overs on the overland route. Here at the Limpopo River Lodge you must not stray from the safety of the lodge barrier fencing as it is too dangerous to wonder even a short distance from camp. You may very well encounter Hippo sleeping in the grass right up close to the wooden pole fences keeping you safe, Crocodile moving just below the camps steep river bank, Elephant moving past and even Lion and Leopard right up close to the camp, stalking in the dark just outside the camp.
Here you are left without all the modern tech, no mobile data - no internet - no electricity, only camp oil lamps and the glow of millions of visible stars twinkling in the darkest African night. The coming up, of even a sliver of a moon will be a welcome relief to the pitch darkness. You will enjoy an African night, sitting around your camp fires and listening to the Nights sounds of the African Wilderness, with no interference from or communication with the outside world.
After a very different night, you to the sounds of a new African day, enjoy a breakfast and then a game drive up to the hollow Baobab, up in the Northern edge of the Lodge.
Thereafter we depart Botswana, cross the Limpopo into South Africa and drive South for just over 5 hours to reach The Kingdom resort, where from your safari northwards started from, to rest another night here before being dropped off at the Airport Lodge again to await your flight home the next day.
